PostHeaderIcon Talking to your kids about home safety

You want your kids to know what it means to be an active Home security family and what the expectations are for them keeping themselves safe. Here are a few ground rules to talk about when you have that first security discussion with your young ones:
Get a password: It should be different than you alarm keypad password (go over that with the kids, too) and it should be something only the family knows. That way, if someone comes to pick them up saying their parents sent them, they’ll have to know the password first.
Talk about strangers: It’s a no brainer, but your kids should know your policy on talking to strangers. They’ve also got to keep the communication lines open about who they’re coming in contact with regularly in the park, on the bus or at school.
Set some rules: It’s easy to be good cop, but not when it comes to your child’s safety. Set some rules for when they have to be home and make sure they know who’s allowed in and how to work the alarm. It’s easier said than done.
